The dogs, Bruno and Bessie, were owned by the partner's mother (the licensee of the pub) and were destroyed soon after the death. Kiel Simpson, the victim's uncle and owner of the dog, was jailed on possession of an illegal dog and banned from keeping dogs for five years. The grandmother was acquitted of criminal charges.
